Osteoporosis Canada is starting to host in-person events again. And on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at the Old Mill Toronto we held a Bone Health 101 session.
Funds raised through C-Gaming thanks to our partnership with Rama Gaming and Charitable Gaming/Community Good helped with managing the expenses for this event, which was a success!
We had a good turnout of over 25 individuals, many who are new to our organization.
In addition to learning about bone health and how individuals can reduce their risk of osteoporosis and related fractures, attendees were able to learn about the other programs and resources available to them and to ask questions and discuss with others.
In our post-event survey, every respondent said they would like to attend another educational event and we are planning our next one!
Here are some of the responses from attendees sharing what they learned at the event:
Men and women develop osteoporosis.
I don't need to stop exercising if I adapt the way I move.
Celiac disease may cause osteoporosis.
Not to overconsume calcium in supplements - take in smaller doses and importance of protein.
Community support groups and great resources to learn more about how to live with osteoporosis.
Definition of a T-score and a Z-score.
Additional feedback in the post-event survey was overwhelmingly positive.
"The development of content on your website is very impressive. Please continue to build. I have found the material valuable to prepare me for conversation with physicians."
"So enjoyable and lots of great informative, Cathy was so knowledgeable."
"A live workshop is great to connect with other people suffering from osteoporosis to share our experiences and learn from each other. Cathy is a wonderful facilitator/educator."
"Thank you so much for holding this conference. It was so important in helping me tackle my new diagnosis. Having it in person gives me the confidence to pursue more support groups online. Thank you so much..."
We are grateful for our partnership with Rama Gaming and Charitable Gaming/Community Good which allows us to provide these educational events in Toronto.
